You should know all of the following points

 

THINK LIKE A DJ/SOUND DESIGNER/RECORDING ENGINEER

 

Bass Drum

 

  1. demonstrate and describe the 3 basic playing areas
    1. dead center: lowest fundamental, driest sound
    2. just off-center: low tone but more resonance
    3. near edge: little fundamental, too much resonance, avoid
  2. Demonstrate basic stroke
    1. Always use bass drum beater
    2. Same concept as other percussion strokes
  3. Demonstrate basic muffling
    1. Avoid when possible
    2. Usually after head is struck
  4. Bass drum placement

Crash Cymbals

 

1. Demonstrate basic sound concept

2. Always line up cymbals

3. Demonstrate suggested playing technique

 

Triangle

 

  1. standard suggested grip and stance
  2. standard suggested playing area
  3. playing technique-pick sound off triangle
  4. demonstrate different tones using different parts of the beater and different playing areas
  5. demonstrate muffling technique, avoid muffling if possible
