The organizers at the Pierce County Fair invited me to perform on three different dates this year, and I had an absolute blast!
One day, I was playing near the fair entrance when a kid walked by whose rabbit had just won a blue ribbon. Of course, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to improvise some lyrics celebrating their amazing rabbit husbandry!
But there are always so many little moments happening around me with people interacting with the music. After serenading the rabbit I realized there was a lovely couple dancing to “Just the Two of Us,” a gentleman who stopped to listen and nod along to my rhymes, and another guy dancing with his huge backpack as his dance partner who joined in on the fun. I especially loved being able to make him smile with my song by adding his backpack into the lyrics.
These are the kinds of unexpected interactions that make performing so much fun. You never know who you might connect with through music, and sometimes the best moments are the ones you might not even realize are happening until watching video later.
